15 novembre the wines Mont Tauch (France) Roi du Mont Reserve Fitou 2004 The examplary Mont Tauch cooperative is centred around the town of Touchan in Fitou, and the Fitou version of Roi du Mont (they also have one from Corbières) is composed of 45% each Carignan and Grenache, with 10% of Syrah. It is unoaked. The nose has a subtley jammy, blackcurrant and cherry aroma, with a touch of cherry bubblegum and some nice, earthier notes filling in. On the palate it is a really bright, crisply-delineated wine, with masses of fine raspberry fruit, and a little bittersweet stripe of liquoricy concentration. There is a definite spiciness too, with firm, tight tannins and plenty of taut acidity keeping tension into the finish. A crisp and food-friendly wine, with some richness on the mid-palate, and a dry, savoury finish. More realistically priced at the £4.66 equivalent of Thresher/Wine Rack's 'three for two' offer perhaps. Mont Tauch (France) Roi du Mont Reserve Corbières 2005The Corbières partner to Mont Tauch's Roi du Mont Fitou is a blend of 40% each of Carignan and Grenache, with 20% of Syrah (twice the Syrah of the Fitou wine). It sees a little oak. The nose has a similar character, but with a slightly more intense, high-toned blue/black fruit quality and suggestion of violets. On the palate it is cool and smooth textured, with a more linear, focused cherry and ripe black fruit running through the core, though it perhaps lacks the Fitou's nuance. There is a crisp, lip-smacking framework of acid and tightly-grained tannins, and a moderately long, spicy finish. Like the Fitou, this makes more sense at Thresher's 'three for two' price of £4.66 equivalent, but at that both wines are a very solid 'buy' recommendation. BTW,DEAR JULIET, I HOPE YOU ARE HAPPY!!! 09 novembre HEY JULIET :)(Hey Juliet) |
